One of the most memorable stops I recently visited with my clients was Cayo Costa Lagoon.

My guests love sandbars, swimming, and simply spending time out on the water, so this destination was exactly the kind of place they were hoping to enjoy.

Our trip began at Eldred’s Marina, and after heading south, we arrived at Cayo Costa Lagoon in about 30 minutes. It is a beautiful and unique spot that offers both relaxation and the excitement of being surrounded by boats, clear water, and the natural beauty of Southwest Florida.

A Lagoon Shaped by Nature

What makes Cayo Costa Lagoon especially fascinating is that it did not exist before 2006.

It first began forming that year as a very small and barely noticeable area. Over time, nature took over. Year after year, sand and shells accumulated, slowly creating what is now a stunning lagoon.

Today, nearly 20 years later, this area is a remarkable example of the power of sand, water, wind, and tides. It is one of those places where you can truly see how the coastline continues to change and evolve.

A Perfect Saturday on the Water

The day we visited was a very lively Saturday. The weather was warm, even hot at times, with a gentle breeze that made the trip even more enjoyable. The water was surprisingly warm and pleasant for mid-April, which made swimming especially inviting.

Since it was the weekend, the lagoon was busy, and finding a good place to anchor took a little longer than usual. On weekdays, it is often much easier to find a comfortable spot. Even so, the atmosphere was fun, energetic, and full of people enjoying the water.

We spent a wonderful time at the lagoon, and my clients told me it was exactly what they had been looking for. They wanted to swim, relax, enjoy the scenery, and spend quality time on the boat — and Cayo Costa Lagoon delivered all of that perfectly.

For guests who love sandbars, warm water, and unforgettable boating experiences, this is one of the best places to visit in Southwest Florida.
