There is no single fixed shelling route. Each private tour begins in Placida, and we select the direction based on the kind of coastal experience you want.

Your adventure begins at Eldred’s Marina in Placida, positioned near Gasparilla Sound and the Boca Grande Causeway. From here, we have direct access to a large network of bays, passes, islands and Gulf shoreline without beginning the trip inside a crowded urban harbor.

Placida works especially well as a starting point because we can choose either a North or South route while keeping the entire journey part of the experience.

A Northbound shelling route takes us from Placida toward the waters around Englewood, Stump Pass, Manasota Key, Caspersen Beach and Venice. The journey follows a changing combination of protected waterways, passes and open coastal scenery.

Stops depend on your available tour time and conditions, but this direction can be especially interesting for guests who want to combine traditional shell collecting with Southwest Florida’s famous fossil and shark-tooth beaches.

Depending on conditions, we may spend more time at one productive shoreline instead of trying to cover every location. Shelling often rewards patience more than distance.

Traveling South opens a much larger network of barrier islands and protected sounds. Boca Grande and Cayo Costa are relatively close to our Placida departure, while longer tours can continue through Pine Island Sound toward North Captiva, Captiva and Sanibel.

Extended custom trips can reach farther South toward Fort Myers Beach, Lovers Key and the Naples area. These are longer-distance experiences where the cruise itself becomes an important part of the day.

Southbound tours offer excellent variety: isolated beaches, shallow flats, mangrove shorelines, island channels and some of the region’s best-known shelling areas can all be incorporated into one customized route.

The best part of a shelling excursion is often everything that happens between the shelling stops. Southwest Florida’s coastal environment changes constantly with tides, currents, wind and seasonal conditions, so no two trips look exactly alike.

Wildlife encounters are always natural and never guaranteed. We observe animals in their environment and allow them to determine how close an encounter becomes.
