1 Your Private Cayo Costa Adventure

Cayo Costa is not a roadside beach. There is no bridge, no line of beachfront hotels and no parking lot beside the sand. Reaching the island by private boat is part of the experience—and departing from Placida places your adventure close to the barrier islands of Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound.

This is your boat for the trip, not a crowded sightseeing cruise. Captain Pavel shapes the day around your group, the weather, tides and local conditions. You can spend more time walking the beach, searching the tide line, swimming, photographing wildlife or simply relaxing where the island still feels wild.

3 Scenic Boat Ride from Placida

Your trip begins at Eldred’s Marina in Placida. From the marina, we cruise through Gasparilla Sound and toward the island waters around Cayo Costa. Depending on conditions and your itinerary, the journey may include views of Gasparilla Island, Boca Grande Pass, Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound and the northern shoreline near Murdock Point.

The route is never treated like empty travel time. It is part of the adventure: working waterfronts, mangrove shorelines, open-sound views, historic islands and opportunities to observe native wildlife along the way.

Depending on the weather, wind and wave conditions, we can approach Cayo Costa along the Gulf coastline through Boca Grande Pass, or travel through Pine Island Sound and Pelican Bay to the dock near the ranger station. We may also stop at Cayo Costa Lagoon to swim and relax before hiking across the island to the Gulf side.

The captain may adjust the route, landing area and activities for wind, waves, tides, park notices, wildlife protection and guest comfort.

5 Beach Time and Shelling

Cayo Costa’s Gulf shoreline is known for shelling, but each tide delivers something different. Florida State Parks notes that visitors may find clam, scallop, oyster and olive shells, and that the lower phase of the tide can expose more of the shell line. There is never a guaranteed shell list—the discovery is part of the fun.

Bring water shoes or secure sandals because shell fragments can be sharp. A small mesh bag is useful for finds, while reef-conscious sun protection, a hat, towel and reusable water bottle help make beach time more comfortable.
