1 Shark Tooth Tours from Placida

We depart from Eldred’s Marina in Placida, Florida. From this central starting point, we can travel in either direction along Southwest Florida’s coast.

The trip is not limited to one beach. We can cruise along the Intracoastal waterways, inspect shoreline conditions and spend time where your group wants to search, swim or explore.

At the end of the adventure, we return to Placida.

2 North or South

From Placida, we have two broad directions available.

Going North takes us toward Stump Pass, Lemon Bay, Manasota Key, Caspersen Beach and Venice. This is the direction most closely associated with Southwest Florida’s well-known fossil shark-tooth beaches.

Going South opens the route toward Boca Grande, Cayo Costa, Pine Island Sound, Captiva, Sanibel and farther South on longer trips.

A South adventure may place more emphasis on islands, shelling, wildlife and beach exploration, while shark-tooth hunting can be included whenever we find suitable shoreline conditions.

3 Going North

For guests especially interested in fossil shark teeth, North from Placida is an important route.

We can travel through Stump Pass and Lemon Bay, along Manasota Key and toward Caspersen Beach and Venice. These coastal areas are widely associated with fossil shark-tooth hunting.

Caspersen Beach is especially well known for dark fossil teeth mixed among shell material along the shoreline. Manasota Key can also provide interesting beaches where shells and darker material collect.

Conditions change constantly, so no single section of beach produces the same results every day.

4 Going South

Going South from Placida gives the day a different character.

We can travel toward Boca Grande, Cayo Costa, Pine Island Sound, Captiva and Sanibel, with farther destinations possible on longer adventures toward Naples.

This direction is excellent for combining beach exploration, shelling, swimming, dolphins and wildlife with stops at interesting shorelines along the route.

Instead of promising shark teeth at every South destination, we let conditions and what we find determine where it makes sense to spend more time.

5 Finding Shark Teeth

Finding a fossil tooth begins with knowing what to look for.

Search where shells, gravel and darker material collect along the tide line. Fossil teeth are often dark gray, brown or black and can stand out against lighter shell and sand.

Small triangular shapes are usually the easiest to recognize, but teeth vary greatly in size, shape and condition.

A small scoop or sifter can help when searching shell beds or shallow water, but patient visual searching along the shoreline can be just as rewarding.

6 Beach, Shell & Explore

The search for shark teeth is only one reason to step ashore.

A good beach stop can also mean shelling, swimming, walking the shoreline, taking photographs or simply sitting down and enjoying a quieter piece of Southwest Florida.

If we find a sandbar or shallow-water area that fits the conditions, we can stop for a swim and give everyone time to relax.

The advantage of traveling by boat is freedom. If one place is not especially interesting, we can continue and see what the next section of coastline brings.

7 Dolphins & Wildlife

Some of the most memorable moments happen while traveling between beaches.

We watch for dolphins, manatees, pelicans, osprey, shorebirds and schools of fish as we move through passes, bays and coastal waterways.

If dolphins appear near the boat, we can slow down and enjoy the encounter. Wildlife sightings are natural and never guaranteed.

Shark-tooth hunting gives us a reason to search the shoreline, but the broader adventure is about discovering what Southwest Florida shows us that day.

8 Waterfront Dining

A longer adventure can include a stop for waterfront lunch or dinner.

We do not need to build the entire tour around a restaurant. Instead, dining can fit naturally into whichever direction we are already traveling.

The best option depends on the route, trip length, operating hours, available dockage and how much time your group wants to spend searching beaches.

Some guests prefer a relaxed lunch halfway through the trip. Others would rather continue exploring and stop for an early dinner on the way back toward Placida.

9 E-Foil & Paddleboard

Shark-tooth hunting can be combined with more active time on the water.

With E-Foil & Paddleboard Adventures, guests can learn, practice or simply have fun when the location, weather and water conditions are suitable.

A paddleboard provides a slower way to move through protected shallow water and explore around a beach or sandbar.

For something completely different, Captain Pavel can help guests learn, practice or enjoy a fun E-Foil ride, gliding above the surface of the water.

10 Customize Your Tour

There is no single formula for a shark-tooth hunting day.

Your group may want to spend several hours searching beaches North toward Manasota Key, Caspersen Beach and Venice. Another group may prefer a longer coastal trip combining fossils with beaches, shelling, islands and wildlife.

You can make shark-tooth hunting the main purpose of the trip or simply one activity among swimming, photography, waterfront dining, E-Foil, paddleboarding and exploring Southwest Florida by boat.

The boat is reserved for your group, giving us the flexibility to spend more time where the day becomes interesting.

At the end of the adventure, we return to Eldred’s Marina in Placida.
