3 Where We Can Go
Charlotte County is surrounded by one of Florida’s most varied coastal boating regions. From Placida, we can explore protected bays, mangrove shorelines, Gulf passes, sandbars and barrier islands.
The exact route depends on the length of your tour, the interests of your group and boating conditions on the day of departure.
Placida and Cape Haze
Explore the waterways surrounding Placida and Cape Haze, including quiet mangrove shorelines, historic working-waterfront areas and protected passages leading into Gasparilla Sound.
Gasparilla Sound
Gasparilla Sound offers open-water scenery, island views and opportunities to observe dolphins, coastal birds and other wildlife. It is also the primary water route from Placida toward Boca Grande and destinations farther South.
Boca Grande Sandbar
The Boca Grande Sandbar is a favorite destination for swimming, relaxing in shallow water and enjoying views of Gasparilla Island. Its size, shape and surrounding water depth change with the tide.
Boca Grande and Gasparilla Island
See Boca Grande from the water, explore the area near Boca Grande Pass or combine your boat ride with a waterfront stop. Although part of Gasparilla Island lies outside Charlotte County, it remains one of the closest and most popular destinations from Placida.
Cayo Costa and Nearby Islands
Longer private tours can continue South toward Cayo Costa, Cabbage Key, Useppa Island and other destinations throughout Pine Island Sound.
4 Choose Your Experience
Every guest has a different idea of the perfect day on the water. Your Charlotte County boat tour can combine several activities, or Captain Pavel can dedicate more time to one specific experience.
Dolphin and Wildlife Tours
Explore likely wildlife areas while Captain Pavel explains what is happening around the boat. Dolphins are wild, so sightings cannot be guaranteed, but every route provides opportunities to discover Southwest Florida’s coastal environment.
Island and Beach Trips
Step ashore on a barrier-island beach, walk along the Gulf shoreline, search for shells or enjoy time away from crowded public beach access points.
Sandbar Boat Tours
Anchor near a shallow sandbar where your group can swim, relax and enjoy the water. Captain Pavel selects the most suitable location according to the tide, wind and water conditions.
Private Sunset Cruises
Enjoy a private evening boat ride as the sun sets over Southwest Florida. Sunset tours are a memorable choice for couples, families, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.
Waterfront Dining Trips
Combine your tour with lunch or dinner at a waterfront restaurant. Restaurant stops depend on dock availability, operating hours and the length of your tour.
Special Occasions
Private trips can be arranged for birthdays, engagements, proposals, anniversaries, family gatherings, corporate outings and respectful ash-scattering memorials at sea.
5 Wildlife and Coastal Nature
The waterways near Placida and Charlotte Harbor support a rich coastal environment. Mangrove shorelines, shallow grass flats, Gulf passes and island beaches provide habitat for marine life and coastal birds.
Depending on the season and local conditions, guests may observe:
- Dolphins traveling, feeding or playing
- Manatees in protected or warmer waters
- Pelicans, ospreys, herons and egrets
- Stingrays and other marine life in clear shallow water
- Gopher tortoises on selected islands
- Native mangroves and coastal vegetation
Wildlife encounters are never staged or guaranteed. Captain Pavel observes animals respectfully and avoids chasing, crowding or disturbing them.
Sometimes the most memorable encounter happens when we slow down and allow wildlife to approach or pass naturally.

7 Meet Captain Pavel
Captain Pavel is a USCG-licensed OUPV captain and the owner of Florida Gulf Discovery LLC. He personally operates each private tour and regularly explores the waterways between Charlotte Harbor, Gasparilla Sound, Boca Grande, Cayo Costa and Pine Island Sound.
His background as a land surveyor, ski instructor, ski patrol member and whitewater rafting guide shaped his practical approach to navigation, safety and outdoor exploration.
Instead of repeating one fixed sightseeing route, Captain Pavel considers tides, wind, water depth, wildlife activity and the interests of each group.
When the water depth is uncertain, he slows down. When conditions change, he adjusts the route.
8 Choose Your Tour Length
The right tour length depends on how far you want to travel and how much time you would like to spend swimming, shelling, dining or exploring ashore.
Three-Hour Private Tour
A good choice for a sunset cruise, local sightseeing or a shorter trip around Placida, Cape Haze, Gasparilla Sound and Boca Grande.
Four-Hour Private Tour
This option provides more time for a sandbar, beach or island stop while still allowing your group to enjoy the boat ride and coastal scenery.
Six- to Eight-Hour Private Tour
A longer tour is best for island hopping, extended beach visits, waterfront dining or destinations such as Cayo Costa and Cabbage Key.
Travel times and available destinations vary according to weather, tides and water conditions. Captain Pavel can help you choose the most realistic tour for your priorities.
9 What to Bring
Prepare for your Charlotte County private boat tour as you would for a comfortable day at the beach. Bring only what your group will reasonably need aboard.
- Sunscreen and sunglasses
- A hat with a secure fit
- Towels and swimwear
- Water shoes or comfortable non-marking footwear
- A light jacket for cooler mornings or evening tours
- Drinking water and preferred refreshments
- A phone or camera for photographs
- Required personal medication
Coastal conditions can change. Captain Pavel monitors the local weather and communicates with guests if a route or departure time needs to be adjusted.
10 Book Your Private Tour
Florida Gulf Discovery LLC welcomes private groups of up to six passengers. Tell Captain Pavel what you would like to see, how much time you have and whether your group prefers beaches, wildlife, sandbars, sightseeing, island hopping or waterfront dining.
Your route will be planned around your interests and adjusted when necessary for safe navigation, tides, weather and water conditions.
