Explore Southwest Florida from the water with Florida Gulf Discovery LLC and Captain Pavel. Our private boat tours depart from Eldred’s Marina in Placida, Florida, providing a central starting point for exploring the Gulf Coast North to Venice or South to Naples.

Every tour is private and customized for your group. Instead of following a fixed sightseeing schedule, we can combine destinations and experiences according to your interests, available time, weather, tides, and conditions on the water.

Your day can include dolphins and coastal wildlife, barrier islands, beaches, sandbars, shelling, swimming, waterfront dining, photography, sightseeing, or simply relaxing while experiencing Southwest Florida from the water.

2 Departing from Placida

All Florida Gulf Discovery LLC private boat tours depart from Eldred’s Marina in Placida. This location gives us direct access to an exceptional network of bays, passes, islands, beaches, and protected coastal waterways.

From Placida, we have two primary directions to explore.

How far we travel depends on the length of your tour and conditions that day. Shorter trips can focus on nearby destinations, while longer charters allow us to explore considerably farther along the Southwest Florida coast.

3 North to Venice

Traveling North from Placida to Venice offers a combination of protected waterways, natural beaches, tidal passes, mangrove shorelines, and Gulf Coast scenery.

From Placida, we can explore Little Gasparilla Island, continue toward Stump Pass, cruise through Lemon Bay, follow the shoreline of Manasota Key, explore the coastal waters near Caspersen Beach, and on longer tours continue toward Venice.

This route provides opportunities for dolphin watching, swimming, beach and sandbar stops, shelling, sightseeing, and wildlife observation. Stump Pass and the surrounding waters are especially interesting because the landscape continually changes with tides, currents, storms, and shifting sand.

The North route can be customized around the experience you want rather than simply reaching a particular destination. We can spend more time exploring a beach, watching dolphins, enjoying a sandbar, or cruising farther North when conditions and tour length allow.

4 South to Naples

Traveling South from Placida to Naples opens an extensive chain of barrier islands, passes, sounds, beaches, waterfront communities, and wildlife habitats.

Leaving Placida, we can explore Gasparilla Sound and Boca Grande, then continue South toward Cayo Costa, Cabbage Key, Pine Island, Pine Island Sound, North Captiva, Captiva, Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach, and, on appropriate longer trips, the coastal waters toward Naples.

The South route offers tremendous variety. One trip might combine Boca Grande with a sandbar stop, while a longer adventure could include island hopping, waterfront dining, wildlife watching, swimming, beaches, and a sunset during the return.

We do not need to visit every destination. Because the charter is private, we can select the places and experiences that make sense for your group, available time, and the conditions we encounter that day.

5 Dolphins & Wildlife

Dolphins and coastal wildlife are an important part of exploring Southwest Florida by boat. Dolphins are frequently encountered throughout Lemon Bay, Gasparilla Sound, Boca Grande, Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound, and other coastal waters along our routes.

Sometimes we see dolphins feeding or traveling through a pass. At other times, they may approach or follow the boat while we are underway. Every encounter is different because these are wild animals moving naturally through their environment.

Depending on the season and location, we may also see manatees, rays, pelicans, ospreys, herons, egrets, shorebirds, and other marine life.

Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but observing animals in their natural habitat is one of the reasons no two days on the water are exactly alike.

6 Beaches & Sandbars

Some of Southwest Florida’s most interesting beaches and sandbars are best experienced by boat.

Depending on tides, weather, water depth, and local conditions, we can anchor or stop where your group can swim, walk along the shoreline, search for shells, take photographs, or simply relax in shallow coastal water.

Possible areas range from Stump Pass and Little Gasparilla Island North of Placida to Boca Grande, Cayo Costa, Captiva, Sanibel, and other locations to the South.

Sandbars are continually influenced by tides and currents, so their size, shape, depth, and accessibility can change. Rather than building the day around one exact stopping point, I select locations according to the conditions we find during your tour.

7 Island Hopping

Southwest Florida’s barrier islands are one of the main reasons to explore this coast by boat. Some are developed waterfront communities, while others preserve long stretches of natural shoreline that are best reached from the water.

From Placida, island-hopping possibilities include Little Gasparilla Island and Manasota Key to the North, or Gasparilla Island, Cayo Costa, Cabbage Key, Pine Island, North Captiva, Captiva, Sanibel, and surrounding islands to the South.

An island-hopping trip can combine cruising with beach stops, shelling, swimming, wildlife viewing, photography, sightseeing, or waterfront dining.

On longer tours, the journey between islands becomes part of the experience. Instead of visiting a single destination and immediately returning, we can explore how Southwest Florida’s islands, passes, bays, and sounds connect from the water.

8 Waterfront Dining

Waterfront dining can turn your time on the boat into a complete Southwest Florida day.

Depending on our route and tour length, we can stop at boat-accessible waterfront restaurants around Manasota Key, Grove City, Placida, Boca Grande, Cabbage Key, Pine Island Sound, and other destinations along the coast.

A dining stop can be combined with island hopping, dolphins, beaches, sandbars, sightseeing, or swimming. On an afternoon or longer tour, lunch or dinner can also become part of a route that finishes with a Southwest Florida sunset.

Restaurant availability, dock space, operating hours, and marine conditions can change, so dining destinations are selected as part of the overall route for the day.

9 Private Tours

Every Florida Gulf Discovery LLC tour is private and customized. You are not joining strangers on a scheduled group excursion.

I operate under a USCG OUPV Captain’s license, with a maximum of six paying passengers. Your group has the boat and Captain Pavel for the tour, giving us the flexibility to shape the experience around what you want to do.

You may prefer a relaxing sightseeing cruise, an active day of swimming and island exploration, dolphin watching, shelling, waterfront dining, photography, a special celebration, or a combination of several experiences.

Weather, tides, currents, water depth, and changing marine conditions always influence the final route. Local knowledge and flexibility allow us to make the most of the day rather than forcing a predetermined itinerary when another option is better.
